Acerca de Jamie
I am a native British English speaker with a great deal of experience in teaching. My background is in Politics and International Relations, and then went on to do a Masters in Conflict, Security and Development studies. You will find a very patient, motivated and dynamic teacher. From 2011 onward, I have been teaching English to people of all ages (especially teenagers and adults) and with various levels of English. I have worked at schools in Spain, Israel and the UK and have also worked independently.

Hi there! My name is Jamie and I am an experienced native-level English teacher. I have just come from the UK, home for the past five years. The need to communicate well in English is very important these days, as we find ourselves in a globalised world that is more interconnected than ever before.
I believe that learning a new language is very personal to each individual. There are different reasons or interests which motivate people to learn a new language. Therefore, adaptability and flexibility are key. This is indeed the basis of my teaching approach, as it allows me to select different teaching methods according to each individual. For instance, while some students are interested in passing their exams (whether this is for school or a Cambridge Certificate like FCE or CAE), others like to focus exclusively on improving their communicative skills. There are also students who like to focus on specific areas like Business English, for example.
What does this mean for you? I am able to adapt and offer a variety of teaching approaches. Getting to know you, how and why you want to learn English, as well as what areas you would like to focus on, will allow me to choose a method that suits you. I have helped many students in the past improve their English, pass their exams, gain fluency and improve their written and oral comprehension. This has been achieved by getting to know my students and what methods work for them.
What´s in it for you? Unlike other teachers who base their lessons on a textbook, my lessons are flexible and personalised according to your interests. I offer one-to-one or group private lessons to both individuals and organisations which can be conducted at your home, at a public place like a café or bar, or via webcam. A core element of my teaching approach is exposure. The more you are exposed to a language, the more you hear it and speak it, the better you become at it. This is why in my lessons you will be practicing your communicative skills all throughout and will be continuously evaluated in real time.
I am also resourceful. I am part of a large network of freelance English teachers known as Oxinity. We have a system with endless learning resources that are updated in real time and which has been jointly created by members of this community. I also speak Spanish and Catalan at a native level and have a basic-intermediate level of French. This means that, just like you, I have also undergone the process of learning a new language! So do not be frightened, it is a different and process for everyone, and I aim to makes yours exciting by proposing fun and engaging lessons that will allow you to let go of your fears! I am highly aware of native Spanish or Catalan speakers’ typical mistakes, as I understand how the brain works in different languages. In my lessons you will find a dynamic, patient and motivated teacher, who will try to exploit your maximum potential and increase your confidence when speaking or writing in English.
